Michael is an optimistic, motivated and highly professional executive with 35 years of experience working with large and small property owners, valuers, investors and managers. His experience has developed an ability to see the “big picture” clearly. He has an intimate knowledge of the structure and dynamics of the Australian property and listed property markets. He has developed a strong focus on corporate governance.
Michael started his career in property management at Gray and Johnson and soon moved into property valuations at Knight Frank. After seven years, Michael joined ANZ Funds Management in 1994 as Manager of their Property Securities Fund. His role expanded to include direct property responsibilities and culminated in his appointment as Head of Property. This role included responsibility for listed and direct property portfolios and a mortgage fund.
Michael joined APN in 2003 as Manager, Real Estate Securities and was soon thereafter appointed the CEO of Real Estate Securities where he delivered market leading risk adjusted returns along with a heightened focus on risk management, compliance and adherence to investment process.
As CEO Real Estate Securities Michael created a reputation as one of Australia’s leading Real Estate Securities managers managing around $2bn in funds. Most recently at APN, he was appointed Chief Investment Officer (Real Estate Securities).
Michael holds a Bachelor of Business (Property) and an Associate Diploma in Valuations RMIT University, Melbourne. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment, FINSIA and is a Licensed Estate Agent in Victoria.
His professional associations include being a Fellow of Australian Property Institute; a Senior Fellow of the Securities, Finance and Banking Institute of Australia and membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
He is based in Melbourne, where he resides with his wife and their three children.
